World Alzheimer’s Day: Future-Proof Your Brain

Alzheimer’s is one of the toughest diseases to witness and one of the scariest to imagine for ourselves. But nearly 45% of dementia cases may be preventable with the habits we build now. Think of your brain like a garden—the small things you do daily are the fertilizer, pruning, and sunlight that keep it thriving.

🌙 Sleep = Brain Housekeeping

Deep and REM sleep clear away toxic proteins tied to Alzheimer’s. Miss out, and memory takes the hit.

🏃‍♀️ Movement = Miracle-Gro for Your Mind

Exercise increases hippocampus size (your memory center). Even light activity helps.

  • 150 minutes/week of movement you enjoy
  • 7,500 steps/day = up to 2 years of “younger” brain age
  • Read: JAMA on steps & brain age

🥗 Eat What Your Brain’s Made Of

Your brain is 60% fat. Feed it the good kind.

  • Add more: leafy greens, berries, walnuts, olive oil, fatty fish, beans, whole grains
  • Limit: fried foods, refined carbs, artificial sweeteners
  • Read: Alzheimer’s Association guide

🧩 Learn + Connect = Stronger Circuits

Novelty creates new neural pathways, while social connection buffers against decline.

  • Learn a new skill (language apps, piano, cooking)
  • Call a friend or join a group. Connection is medicine

❤️ Whole-Body Health = Brain Health

Hypertension, diabetes, depression, and hearing loss all increase dementia risk.

  • Schedule annual check-ups
  • Manage blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar
  • Get your hearing tested
  • Read: Lancet Commission Report

💧 Hydrate

Your brain is 75% water. Even mild dehydration slows cognition.

  • Aim for 2–3 liters/day (coffee/tea count toward this, alcohol does not)
  • Check your pee: pale yellow = hydrated, darker = drink up
  • Pair water with electrolytes after workouts or hot days
  • Don’t wait until you’re thirsty—by then, you’re already behind
  • Read: Harvard School of Public Health: Water & Health

🔬 On the Horizon: Cutting-Edge Brain Health

What’s next in Alzheimer’s prevention? Science is buzzing with new approaches:

  • Elemind Sleep Headband → Brainwave modulation for faster sleep and stronger memory formation.
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) → Noninvasive brain stimulation showing promise for depression and cognition.
  • Neurofeedback → Real-time brain training for better focus and resilience.
  • Klotho Protein → A breakthrough anti-aging protein tied to cognitive protection.
  • Read: Nature: Klotho & cognition

There’s no single magic bullet. It’s small, consistent choices like better sleep, daily movement, colorful meals, true connection, and regular care that keep your brain sharp for decades to come.

How I use Gamma to Create Presentations

As a solopreneur juggling multiple clients, time is precious to me. I’m either writing for The Assist, crafting my own SkillsScoop newsletter, pitching new clients for The Conquer Company, or managing the projects I already have. Any tool that makes my life easier gets my attention fast.

One thing I’ve always found painful (due to both ADHD and my desire for high-performance delivery) is creating PowerPoint decks. I used to use Google Slides, then moved to Canva, but recently discovered something that’s been a total game-changer: Gamma.

What Makes Gamma Different

Gamma is an AI document and presentation maker that actually gets it right. You can tell it in various ways what you want in a deck, and it’ll create it quickly and intelligently. No more staring at blank slides wondering how to structure your thoughts.

Here’s exactly how I use it:

  • I write a rough outline. Nothing fancy — just the main points I want to cover and the flow I’m thinking. I’ll usually drop it into ChatGPT with pre-populated contextual information. This takes maybe 10-15 minutes and helps me organize my deck before I even touch the tool.
  • I prompt it with my content. I can input my outline, paste in existing content, or even just describe what I need. The AI understands context surprisingly well.
  • I let it do its thing. This is where the magic happens. Gamma generates a complete presentation with logical flow, relevant content, and professional design elements.

  • I customize the colors. This is where I make it mine. You can use their standard templates, but I like to pick custom colors that align with my brand or the client’s brand. The color customization options are solid and make a real difference in the final look.

  • I tweak images and layouts. I spend time adjusting visuals, swapping out stock photos for more relevant ones, and fine-tuning the layout to match my style or the specific audience.

This process cuts my presentation prep time by 50-70% depending on the complexity. What used to take me 3-4 hours now takes 1-2 hours, and that includes all the customization.

I’ve used Gamma for client proposals, webinar decks, and even internal strategy presentations. The AI does a surprisingly good job of understanding the different contexts and adjusting the tone and structure accordingly.

Why This Matters for Busy Professionals

Look, we’re all drowning in tasks that feel necessary but don’t directly move the needle. Presentation creation is one of those things. You need professional-looking slides, but spending hours perfecting slide transitions isn’t what’s going to grow your business.

Gamma lets me focus on the content and strategy while handling the design and formatting heavy lifting. I’m not compromising on quality; I’m just being smarter about where I spend my time.

The Reality Check

Is it perfect? No. I still need to review everything, adjust for my specific audience, and add my own insights and examples. But it gives me a solid foundation instead of starting from zero every time.

For someone who values both efficiency and quality, it’s become one of those tools I genuinely love turning to when I feel too overwhelmed by the tasks, and need to just get something started. Highly recommend checking it out!

PAYROLL TOOLS

Illustration of a man in a blazer holding a phone in front of a large payroll document, with icons of a calendar, calculator, and stacked coins, all set against a bright blue background.

Get Payroll Off Your Worry List

Ask any founder or manager what part of the job they’d happily hand off, and payroll’s near the top. It has to be right—because one mistake is obvious instantly—but the process is often clunky, time-consuming, and high-stakes.

The usual pain points:

  • Tax deadlines sneaking up
  • Contractors misclassified as employees (or vice versa)
  • Hours lost triple-checking spreadsheets
  • Paying global hires without clear guidance on local laws

It doesn’t have to be this way.

  • Paychex → smooths out U.S. tax filings and compliance
  • OnPay → straightforward, all-in-one support for scaling teams
  • Multiplier → handles global payroll without the legal maze

The goal isn’t just avoiding mistakes, it’s building a system you can trust. Because when your team gets paid accurately and on time, you gain more than hours back. You reinforce credibility.
